Proud to be 33!
Another year turns on the birthday wheel and as I reflect about how it feels to be 33 and what has happened getting to this point, I like to say I am pretty pleased and here is why. (Warning: this get’s a bit corney, but sometimes you have to be honest with yourself.)
When I was 13, I celebrated my Bat Mitzvah which carried the theme peace around the world. With every Bat Mitzvah in the ’90’s it was essential to figure out a theme that you like or represents you and I decided that I wanted a big table backdrop of people from different countries holding hands around a big globe and then carried on to get little giveaways from the Oriental Trading Company who had a whole peace section to their catalogue. It was also important that we sang the Michael Jackson song – Heal the World..haha! We had little scrolls rolled up on everyone’s plate with the words and then when everyone sang together I was just happy as a clam. It was a bit cheesy at the time but meant a lot.
Move ahead 20 years I realise how since 13 it excited me when I thought about connecting different cultures and providing a way for people to understand and learn about one another. And now I am proud to say experiences and friends all over the world have helped shape me and they will continue to. Sometimes you have your best moments when you laugh about the different ways Aussies, Brits, and Americans pronounce words or learn why people from China like to eat chicken feet when sitting in a restaurant having them being waved in front of your face to try them (ewwh!), or the first time your friends from all over met in Africa for the first time to go off and hike Kilimanjaro the next day.
All of these experiences helped me understand my place and purpose and how to translate what I love into what I can do for business. Now I believe that this has helped to create the Power of Good – for the people surrounding me and for the products/services I represent.
Good experiences. Good people. Good acts of kindness for a better world. Thank you friends and family near and far!
This is the currency of meaning for me. Living is giving!
