The future human
As my husband subjects me to his love for Sci-fi flicks and drama series, I do find myself really getting into them once in a while. However I tend to think that these shows aren’t like Star Trek any more. Yes – they still take place in space but they are much closer to what reality could look like in perhaps 15-20 years.
Once these shows end, my brain comes back to reality, but it really stirs up a few questions. Mainly, what the future human would look like. I don’t think we will be living in space, but potentially more on water on a self-sustaining barge. In terms of how we operation, you want to think that one day we are all programmed with a device or chip to automatically provide info updates to our network by just thinking it versus typing it.
As I watch my toddler start to use my iPhone and want to bang away at the computer, I can certainly say he will be a part of the future human generation which will be just one step closer to thinking like an operating system in binary code, wanting to constantly connect to a virtual network. The debate goes on whether this is a good or bad thing. At the moment, I think it is a good thing for a toddler as he is constantly teaching himself how to interact with an object as well as cause and effect. He is especially mesmerised when the iPhone speaks to him at the push of a button (well he likes to push the button constantly!).
So fast forward time to when he is 12 and I do believe that his brain development will be different from mine at that age. He is just going to know how to work technology in his sleep. It will be part of his DNA. It’s hard to fathom that a change in brain development could happen because these things take many years, but the ubiquity of technology and being connected in our lives and our children’s lives is something that will evolve the human race. Watch this video and take a remarkable step into what the future human could be about.
The new question: When will we acknowledge whether the human race is evolving in a new way. Will it change what it means to be human by joining up our brains like a giant hive?
The next question: Then who will be the ‘Queen’ bee?
