Recipe for Driving Sustainable Behaviour Change
For the past 3 years I have been fortunate enough to watch and recently create a disruptive business model. In order to nail down disruption you have to be confident in changing consumer behaviour. With this said, there are really no secrets to driving behaviour change across the board, but in reality the execution of trying to generate change can miss the mark majority of the time. With over 500,000 solar systems now generating free electricity across the UK, here are the ingredients to driving and sustaining change – believe it or not it’s not all about being green or doing a good thing:
Recipe makes enough to serve up to 50 people
100 grams: Simple Education answering what’s in it for me
200 grams: Add a long term incentive to help your pocket
75 grams: Service provides a quietly pioneering pride to doing a good thing DAILY. Make the small things that can help put more money in their pocket count.
25 grams: A sprinkly of Feel Good Factor. Rewards for telling your neighbour
So in a nutshell – if these 4 ingredients are missing from your change recipe, than trying to get people to do a good thing just won’t scale the way we need to see change. It may take more public and private money upfront, but in the long term it will pay for itself and then some as it creates a cycle of success!
